Celebrate "Let's Beat Diabetes 2025"

The National Botanical Garden was transformed into a space of hope, energy, and solidarity with the celebration of the twelfth edition of " Let's Beat Diabetes ," an event that this year took on special significance as it commemorated the 20-year history of the Learning to Live Foundation .

Under the slogan "I'm not sugar," the event brought together thousands of attendees from early hours, who participated in an agenda full of activities focused on prevention , education, and awareness about diabetes .

The initiative seeks to break stigmas and reaffirm that living with this condition is not a limitation, but a challenge that can be faced with information, support, and commitment.

Since its founding in 2005, Learning to Live has impacted more than 5,000 Dominican families , providing them not only with education on diabetes management , but also psychological support, medications, and community initiatives that transform diagnosis into an opportunity for an active and dignified life.

"This edition is very special because we celebrate two decades of tireless work," said an excited Wendy Cepeda , vice president of the Foundation and who has lived with diabetes for 22 years .

"We've built community , broken myths, and raised our voices for those living with this condition. Today, more than ever, we reaffirm that together we continue to defeat diabetes ."

A day of awareness and celebration

Hosted by Plinio Martínez and Arisleyda Cruz , the event offered a wide range of programming, including a warm-up with Latin Mix , a walk through the garden paths, health stations, a children's area, live music, educational activities, and raffles.

Performances by Clara y los Funkers and Los Topitokers provided a festive and energetic closing.

In addition to the celebratory atmosphere , the day served as a platform to reiterate an urgent message:

  • Diabetes is one of the country's main public health challenges.
  • According to recent data, 17.6% of the Dominican adult population lives with this condition.
  • An alarming 46.5% of cases have not yet been diagnosed .

The Foundation also highlighted its active role in promoting public policies, especially in the proposed Diabetes Law , currently under consideration in the National Congress. This legislation seeks to guarantee universal access to medicines , technology, and supplies, as well as establish a framework for comprehensive and multidisciplinary care .

"We need to transform diabetes treatment from a privilege to a guaranteed right," Cepeda emphasized, reiterating that the passage of this law is crucial given the sustained increase in cases in the country.

" Let's Win 2025 " was much more than a walk: it was a symbol of struggle, unity, and hope. With its eyes set on the future, the Learning to Live Foundation reaffirms its commitment to educating, preventing, and transforming lives into a more conscious and inclusive society.
